Today marks the official start of my holiday baking.
If you follow me on Facebook, you already saw that I made my holiday baking list on Sunday.
I wasn’t kidding when I said it was getting ridiculous.
Exhibit A:
For some reason, I don’t even flinch when I buy shortening in the little butter-shaped sticks. There is something about a big tub of Crisco that terrifies and makes me insanely happy at the same time.
You don’t have to say it. I know I have issues. We’ve been over this before.
Exhibit B:
Everyone has already been warned about what will happen to them if they even breathe near this cupboard.
They just laughed at me when I told them.
I don’t think they are scared of me.
Exhibit C:
My husband rolled his eyes when I contemplated buying a third package.
I have an irrational fear of running out of butter.
Again, issues. I’m aware.
Thanks.
Yesterday, I made my shopping lists (yes, plural) and spent way too much $ purchased everything I need to get started.
In an effort to keep myself organized, I wanted to do a single post that included many of the recipes I will be using this year.
This year’s list not only includes my traditional fare, but also has quite a few new recipes that I am dying to try.
What can I say, it’s just one of the hazards of reading multiple cooking blogs each day.
That, and bigger pants.
Anyway…before I go over our Christmas faves, here are a few of the new recipes I am planning to try:
Caramel-Filled Chocolate Cookies, a la Iowa Girl Eats
Toffee Pretzel Bark and Pistachio Cranberry White Chocolate Bark a la Michelle at browneyedbaker (which is the same site I found the pumpkin scone recipe, by the way)
Oreo Balls and Snickerdoodles, a la Jessica at How Sweet It Is
Peppermint Bark, a la Megan at MegaNerd Runs
Bourbon Balls, a la Kath at Kath Eats Real Food
Along with these new recipes, I plan to repeat some of our favorites:
Molasses Cookies (a double batch because one batch will last us through the weekend. Maybe.)
Decorated Sugar Cookies
Coconut Macaroons
Peanut Butter Candy (a spin on the well-known buckeye candy)
Traditional Peanut Butter Cookies
Peanut Butter Cup Cookies
Magic Cookie Bars (aka seven-layer bars)
Traditional Spritz Cookies
Mexican Wedding Cakes (aka Russian Tea Cakes)
I would have included the recipes for you all, but I do not have electronic copies. Each recipe is either in a recipe book splattered and smeared with who-knows-what or scribbled on the back of one of my daughter’s spelling tests.
So that’s the overly-ambitious plan so far.
I’m sure the plan will change approximately twelve times before we head home for the holidays.
Am I missing anything?
What are some of your favorites?

YOU ARE MY HERO!
OMG…are you kidding? That list is insane!! There is no other cookie left to make! P.S. I can taste test everything if you need. We (I mean you) wouldn’t want anything going out that isn’t perfect!
You are deluded……but in a sweet zany way!
I have a recipe for cream-cheese spritz. Chocolate walnut cookies are also on my list. Any requests for cookies at home?
If you are 1/10th as excited for you to come home as I am, you are VERY, VERY, EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
